Legislative Success
After many years of hard work, dedication and commitment, FDHA passed legislation that will have a huge impact on the access to dental care for the citizens of Florida. HB1157 and SB2178 were signed by Governor Bush in June 2006. The new law allows dental hygienists to perform dental charting without supervision in facilities other than dental offices. This language was a result of collaborative efforts by the FDHA and FDA. Both associations worked together to develop and support the language. In addition to performing the screenings, dental hygienists must refer individuals for a complete dental examination.
Each one of you is encouraged to utilize this important advancement for the profession of dental hygiene. The Council on Government Affairs would like to thank all who worked so hard to pass this language. The effort has taken many years, council members, board members, past presidents, grass root members, lobbyists and the executive office. It is very rewarding to know that the passion and commitment resides in our association to make a difference in how dental hygiene services are delivered. We have just begun to make a difference. Thank you again for your support and look forward to many more successes.

So, what is the process for screening? Is there standard paperwork that hygienists have to use?
